Reversible Cable Scarf I wanted to make a cabled scarf, but I didn't like the look of the 'wrong' side of a cabled scarf. So after searching and using google for reversible cable patterns, I ended up with this: ( Reversible Cable Scarf )
Needles: clover bamboo circular size 4.5mm (this was car knitting) wool: patons classic wool merino in dark grey and patons rustic wool in natural
The rustic wool was a little scratchy, but after washing and blocking it softened up nicely. The reversible cable pattern was easy to memorize and I just switched colours every 5 cables for the colour blocks. The pattern is really simple, its just a 4 x 4 rib with cables every 3rd row to get them on both sides.

[Link] | I just had to put this somewhere! This morning I entered a contest to win tickets to an Avril Lavigne concert (mainly just to keep daughter #1 happy) and I won!! I am going to have one very excited 10 year old when she gets home from school today. The tickets don't even go on sale until Saturday. I know I'm excited, but its only because I know how much this will make her happy. The concert isn't even until April! SHe going to be counting down the time til then, and I know what is going to be on replay on her MP3 from now til then!! Back to my knitting now that I've had a chance to be excited!

Wonderful Wallabys Here are the first two of four sweaters that I'm doing for nieces for Christmas. They asked for me to knit them sweaters like I had done for my own girls. At ages 7, 10, 12 and 14 I was surprised that they wanted hand knit things, but I also know that they will wear them.
Pattern: Wonderful Wallaby by Cottage Creations Yarn Used: Bernat denim style, one in denim and the other is sweatshirt, 70% acrylic 30% cotton (machine washable was a must) Needles: Clover bamboo, sizes 6 and 8 double points for the sleeves and circular for the body Modifications: These are both children's size 12,(for the 10 yr.old and the 12 yr old) but I made the body and sleeves about two inches longer than the pattern called for. Also for joining the pocket, I do a row of YO for the amount I'm supposed to pick up. On the next round I put the YO's on to a separate needle to wait until its time to go back and do the pocket. Then I simply attach the new ball of yarn, and the pocket stitches are ready for me to go without a whole lot of fuss. New things learned: I learned how to do a Russian Join the yarn really worked out well for this method of joining a new ball of yarn without adding extra bulk. I can see myself using this method of joining a new ball much more when I'm not working with 100% wool.
Here are the finished sweaters:( Wonderful Wallabys )
and here is picture of the pocket join:( pocket details )
Time to go start the next one of these!

doll clothes I've been on a bit of a roll lately knitting doll clothes for my daughters' 18 inch dolls. They are really quick and simple to do and a great way to use up small bits of odds and ends.
Here are some of the things I've made for them, most things are knit in worsted weight using 4.5mm needles and I just made up the patterns as I went along:( Doll Clothes )
Its been snowing here all day so I did a doll fashion shoot and then put the pics into photobucket, just to have somewhere to have them all!
Time to go shovel now and then off to pick up the kids from school!

Hat I just finished a hat from Magknits online magazine. It is the Fake Isle from the November issue.
I used Patons Soy wool blend and some patons classic merino that I had on hand ( Fake Isle )
This will go to one of my nieces, I'm going to be knitting a bunch of hats and letting them pick what they like. They tend to like everything I knit them so I'm just hoping they don't end up all wanting the same hat!
Now time to pick another pattern I like and get the next hat going!

Birthday knitting I don't do any Christmas knitting,(gift cards are a great thing!) but I do have two nieces with December birthdays. I got a copy of The World of Knitted Toys for my birthday and the kids picked out what they wanted knit for their birthdays.
So here are birthday gifts: ( Turtle and Octopus )
Details: they were both knit with Patons Canadiana on size 4.5mm needles. Both the yarn and the needles were larger than called for but I thought that bigger was better for stuffed animals.
The only changes I made were, I knit the octopus legs on DPNs because the thought of seaming up all eight legs was not a fun one. As with most patterns in the book everything is knit flat and then seamed up so you get a lot of practise sewing up your knitting. My row counter is also a necessity with the patterns in this book as everything is done by row counts. They were both easy knits and done fairly quickly but the octopus legs did get tedious.
My own kids are trying to decide what animal is next!

[Link] | I'm in a great mood today! They announced that Natalie McMaster will be playing a concert here, in my city. So the youngest and I went to see about tickets. My oldest daughter plays violin and her and I saw Natalie last year in London, it was her birthday gift last year from my sister. So I was happy to learn that she's coming here. So I got two tickets for the show, front row of the balcony on the aisle (so when daughter gets jumpy she doesn't bother anybody). Now I just have to keep it a secret until August since her ticket will go in her b'day card as part of her gift this year!!
In July I'll order her a new violin, she will need the next size up by then and I can get one for her that is blue, her favourite colour. We tried to order it last year but they don't make the coloured ones smaller than 1/2 size. So this year she'll be able to get it. It will be the rest of her b'day gift along with the concert ticket!
The koolaid socks are done and the colour stayed after washing, so I guess that was a success. Now I just have to take a picture of them. The weather is supposed to be wet all weekend so I think we may try to colour some more yarn this weekend. I'll take pictures this time as we do it.
Time to go make lunch. Bye

[Link] | Well, March break is over and the kids are all back to school. Time to get caught up on things.
On one of the knitting lists I am on there was someone last week looking for a "pink chibi". My first thought on reading this was someone was looking for a knitted Mini Moon from 'Sailor Moon'. I have since learned that it is a case for sewing needles made by a Japanese company but every time I read "pink chibi" I'm seeing a knitted Mini Moon. I think I may have to find a pattern and try to knit one or make up my own. Obviously I watched too much Sailor Moon with my daughter.
Back to reading lists to get caught up on anything I missed last week.

[Link] | Woke up this morning to still more snow!!!!The forecast is calling for snow for the next few days, so I guess that means instead of going for bike rides next week while the kids are on March break we'll be going tobogganing instead. There are some good hills where my Mom lives so we'll be packing up and going there. Where we are has no hills. It's all flat farmland.
I finally finished the last poncho. All six are done and each one is different so they can't fight. I just hope they all fit. I discovered that while I can knit and read, that I can't crochet and read. I put fun fur trim and a couple of the ponchos and it seemed to take forever because I had to pay attention to what I was doing. I think I'll stick to knitting from now on.
Reading time will be limited next week with everyone home. The older kids like to see what Mom is doing on the computer and like to read over my shoulder so I have to be careful and they also want to be online too now. Time to start thinking about getting another computer.
Off to go pick up the little one from Nursery School now!

Snow, snow, and more snow The weather people said we were going to get snow, and we sure did. School is still open though so the oldest walked to school while I watched them from the driveway as I shovelled, and shovelled. Finally got too tired to keep shovelling so I'm inside taking a break. The neighbours' drive needs to be done also since they are on a cruise. I just wish whoever is supposed to be checking on their place would clean their drive, but I haven't seen anyone so I've been doing it so it looks like someone is there.
Jim called home last night and got a chance to talk to the kids before they went to bed. It was a better night. The boy came in around midnight to sleep since he was having bad dreams, just brought in his pillow and sleeping bag and camped out on the floor at the bottom of the bed.
Well break time is over, time to go do some more shovelling, since it is still snowing, at least I might get ahead at some point!!

Monday Morning Well, its Monday and there is a winter storm watch outside. The snow is supposed to begin around lunch today and continue until Wednesday. Oh joy!! More snow to shovel.
The husband left yesterday to go to Kentucky for a work training course, so he'll miss all the crap weather here. All the kids ended up sleeping with me last night. Jim hasn't been gone overnight for work for a while and they were all sad. The oldest was the saddest, the girls were okay once I let them sleep with me and this morning everything was normal. That was probably because he's usually gone by the time they start to get ready for school. Hopefully they stay in their own beds tonight, it's hard to get any knitting done in the dark.
I hope the next training course he takes is run in Detroit because then he can be home at night. I think it is in April sometime but I'm not real sure.
Off to do some house cleaning today, just in case tomorrow ends up being a snow day, I won't get anything done with my kids and their friends here.
p.s. Happy Birthday Sharon!!!

[Link] | When is the snow ever going to end?? I am tired of shovelling. I spent an hour last night and still had to do it again today. Even the kids are getting tired of snow. I think that's because they don't get any snow days. Yesterday they were really hoping for a snow day today, but, the snow stopped and the roads were clear. So, off to school they went.
I'm sore and tired from shovelling so today is going to be a good day to sit back and read and reread all my favourite stories. I don't think I'll get much knitting done, but I've done two ponchos, and a third is 3/4 done so I can take a break today.
Off to read and relax.
I just noticed when spell checking this entry, LJ doesn't like Canadian spellings! Oh well.

Friday stuff I wish the weather would make up its mind. It was raining and mild at the beginning of this week. On Tuesday the kids were riding their bikes. Wednesday there was snow on the ground but still not real cold. But this morning its freezing and there is a wind chill again. Stupid groundhog, didn't see its shadow so where is the early spring??
I went skating this morning with my sons class. It was warmer in the arena than outside! My legs are tired after an hour of skating and keeping up with 9 and 10 year old boys on the ice. Next week it my daughters class that I get to skate with. At least the 7 and 8 year old girls are a lot calmer on the ice.
I figured out why I don't update this much, I usually have my knitting in my hands as I read online and while I can read and knit at the same time, typing and knitting just doesn't work! My sister wants me to knit ponchos for her girls for Easter, so since there are four of them, I'm going to be busy for the next few weeks. My own girls also want one so that makes six done by Easter. At least the boy wants nothing, I knit him a stuffed dinosaur last month so he'll be happy for a while!
Well time to go pick up the littlest one from nursery school now. Peace is done for the day!!

Just rambling Well, I thought that I'd use this more, but every time I thought of stuff to say I'd forget what I wanted to by the time I'd logged in and read through other journals.
Got my oldest two signed up for soccer again. My youngest was very sad that she's still to young to play on a team yet. The boy wasn't too sure about playing this year, they move to the full sized field instead of the mini fields this year (he's going to be 10) but most of his friends are still playing so he is going to give it one more year. I hate that sign up is so early, they don't start games until mid May.
So glad it is finally Friday. This week has been never ending. It is the one night that I actually watch T.V. Gundam Seed, which I am watching but still can't really get into is on, followed by InuYasha and Witch Hunter Robin both series that I enjoy, but I have yet to check out any fan fiction for. I guess I'm too attached to GW fiction to branch out. Though I watched to whole series before I even found out about fan fiction for it.
Well, not much else to say for now, time to go get the kids from school soon. Happy Friday

[Link] | Happy Day!! I wasn't online much yesterday so today I was happy to see not one but two new updates from Kracken!!She is so incredible to be able to do so much. One of the updates was for Princes and Soldiers which makes me happy as I enjoy 6x2!
My dog got out of the yard this morning. I had some extra kids over before school (their parents weren't home from work and babsitter had to get to school) they left my gate open, and of course out ran the dog. Problem was I didn't know about it until about an hour later when I went to get her to walk the kids to school. Instant panic, my dog is friendly normally, but she is very large, looks scary. Plus they were re-paving the road in front of the house and I think the noise ect. from that freaked her out. Thankfully someone found her and knew where she belonged. (The benefit of having a 'different'dog is people know where she belongs) The man that found her had been out walking his dog and he just put his leash on my dog and was wlking her home when I saw them. Happy ending.
My Christmas knitting is moving along. I've finished two sweaters, one pair of socks and a hat. I've still got to do four pairs of mittens, three hats, one headband and one more sweater. If all goes well this week I should have a couple pairs if mitts done.
Time to go rake leaves before it snows here.
Bye

Friday Ramblings Hooray it's Friday. Happy Friday. for me that means its Anime night, Gundam Seed, Inu Yasha, amd Witch Hunter Robin. I enjoy my Friday nights. I think that of the three, Witch Hunter Robin is my favourite. Gundam Wing is still my most favourite though and the only one I've read fan fics for. It was about five years ago that I found GW and then eventually stories. I can't believe I've been lurking around for that long but when I look at the dates at the stories as I re-read some and see when they were posted, I realize how long its been.
It is 'Black and Orange' Day at my kids school. No costumes but my kids had fun getting ready, the boy even let me colour his hair with black hairspray (just the spikes). My older daughter used fabric paint and decorated a pair of black pants and t-shirt to make a halloween themed shirt.
Took the kids apple picking yesterday afer school. We were very late this year, normally we go at the beginning of October, around my sons' b'day but this year the weather wouldn't co-operate or hubby was working overtime. So, since he had to go to Detroit today for meetings and won't be home til late and it is supposed to rain on Saturday off we went yesterday. The kids had a great time as always, too bad I twisted my ankle chasing the littlest one down the rows. Stepped in a hole and down I went. Thankfully only she saw and is to little to tell anyone how silly Mommy looked when she fell.

Random Things I wanted to make an entry but don't really have much to say.
Tried Vanilla diet coke yesterday, I like it, not enough to drink it regularly but once in a while. I also got some Glossette Raisins (chocolate covered raisins) on sale today. Sugar and caffeine yum!!
Watched Endless Waltz Saturday night with the kids. Now they want to see more but all I have is a few episodes taped off the TV. I guess next trip to London I'll have to look for the DVDs as I live in a place where I can't get any anime dvds unless its a kids show currently on TV. Even then they hardly get anything.
Sunday hubby and the boy went to an NBA game so the girls had a movie day at home. It ended up being a Cardcaptor marathon with a few Sailor Moon episodes tossed in for good measure.
For someone with out a lot to say I sure can ramble on but time to go now.

[Link] | Two entries in one month!!
Dropped my youngest off at her nursery school this morning and she didn't cry today. That was a relief as the last time she was crying so hard I thought I'd have to go back and pick her up early. Thankfully the staff there are fantastic with her. Both my older kids went to the same place before they started JK and its still the same teachers they had.
My son got the last of his birthday presents last weekend at my mothers' house. He got tickets to go see a pre-season NBA game Toronto Raptors vs Philadelphia 76'rs. He is soo excited since his best friend will be going too, they've been bouncing about it all week.
I've mad a good start on the Christmas knitting. A sweater for one of my nieces is done and I only have three more to go, but I did the biggest one first. The socks for my mom are almost done, they should be done by the end of the weekend. So since I was feeling accomplished with what I had done I started two more things, a wool toque for my brother in law and a baby blanket for a friend who is due very soon!
Just heard thunder outside so I guess today's ramblings are done.
